Mayor for a Day Essay Contest Winners Announced
The winners will be invited to read their essays at the first Council Meeting of the new year, January 12, 2006
During this year’s Mayor’s Book Club, young Austinites were invited by Mayor Wynn to speak out by writing a one or two page essay about what they would do if they were Mayor for a day. The Mayor asked Austin youth to talk about what they think Austin needs, and to send it to the Mayor’s office in the form of an essay. Winners were selected in three categories. Elementary School, Middle School and High School. “We received so many great essays.” says Mayor Wynn. “Kids wrote about the environment, education and literacy, safety and health issues, and they had some highly creative solutions to address some of these issues. I’d like to personally thank all these young Austinites for participating in the Mayor for a Day Essay Contest.” The winners will be invited to read their essay at the first Council Meeting of the new year, January 12, 2006.
