The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema
While WWII ravaged Europe and Hollywood focused on propaganda war films, Mexico stepped into the spotlight. The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema was a period from the mid 1930’s to the late 1950’s. The golden age ended when studio ownership and distribution became concentrated in the hands of William O. Jenkins who favored Hollywood films and limited Mexican production to a handful of low-budget genre films known as “churros”.
