Austin Public Library New Branch Hours Begin October 2, 2008

As part of the 2008/2009 Library budget branch libraries will be closed on Thursday or Friday of each week. The funds from the one day closures will be reallocated in the areas of custodial, security, maintenance and the materials budget for the library system.  “This budget will allow our libraries to be better maintained, cleaner and safer,” said Brenda Branch Director of Libraries.

On Thursday, October 2, 2008 the 20 branches of the Austin Public Library will be paired geographically and the hours of operation coordinated so no area within the City will be without library service on any given day. All locations except the Faulk Central Library will close one day a week on the least busy day with one paired library open when the other is closed. The days selected for closing are the least busy times for that location, minimizing the service impact on library customers. Ten branches will be closed to the public on Thursday and ten will close on Friday. The Austin History Center remains closed Thursdays and Fridays, and the Faulk Central Library will maintain its current hours of operation without any changes.  For additional information or hours of operation call (512) 974-7400 or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library.
