The FM 812 Resource Recovery Center
Although the City of Austin Landfill is closed, the FM 812 Resource Recovery Center still accepts:
- air conditioners,
- hot water heaters,
- dryers,
- stoves,
- refrigerators and other metal appliances.
- car batteries,
- all types of metals (steel, aluminum, tin, cooper, brass, stainless steel, etc.),
- used antifreeze,
- motor oil and oil filters.
Recycling Computers and Electronics
The Resource Recovery Center cannot accept:
- Computer monitors,
- microwaves,
- TV’s.

Free Wood Chips
Free mulch is available to the public at the City of Austin Landfill on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call (512) 243-3325 first to find out if chips are available. Please bring pitchforks, bags and shovels to load the mulch yourself. Staff can load vehicles for $1 a yard. No cash or credit cards; only checks are accepted.
Free Glass Cullet
Glass mulch/glass cullet is made from recycled glass and is available at the Landfill. People are asked to bring their own shovels, gloves and containers for the mulch (if not loading into a pickup). Staff can load a pickup or dump truck for $9.64 per ton. No cash or credit cards; only checks are accepted. There is no charge for glass mulch if customers load it themselves. Location, Hours and Directions
The Resource Recovery Center is operated by employees of the City’s Solid Waste Services Department. These employees are certified to remove freon from appliances for proper disposal and there is no fee for this service. Please wear closed-toe shoes when visiting the landfill.

Holiday closings: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Directions:
From central Austin, go south on 183 towards Lockhart. Go straight through the light at Burleson Road. Turn left at the next light at FM 812. The landfill is the second landfill on your left, about 1 mile down the road.
From Bastrop, go west on Highway 71. Before passing the airport, turn left on to FM 973. Take FM 973 to the stop sign at FM 812. Turn right on to FM 812. The landfill will be the first one on your right.
