  • For Volunteers
    Become an Environmental Ambassador.
  • For Teachers
The Solid Waste Services Department offers two free classroom presentations for 2nd and 3rd graders. The presentations introduce students to the concepts of recycling, waste reduction and zero waste, and correspond with the TEKS. Both presentations are fun, engaging for the kids and educational. We come to your classroom and provide all materials, and it’s free.
  • For the Community
Block Leader Program: More than 250 volunteer Recycling Block Leaders help spread the word about recycling in their neighborhoods. Volunteers of the Block Leader Program will receive a bundle of educational door hangers to share with your neighborhood, a newsletter, and an eco-friendly, reusable bag.

Organized Cleanups: Austin residents, event organizers, City of Austin departments, and neighborhood groups may request assistance for organized cleanup events through the Neighborhood Assistance Program.
  • For Event Organizers
Request a Speaker: Solid Waste Services staff are available to speak at your neighborhood meeting or set up a booth at your community event on topics including zero waste, recycling, composting and more.
  • For Businesses
The Waste Reduction Assistance Program is a free service that assists local businesses with their recycling and waste reduction efforts by motivating businesses to get involved, providing assistance and resources and recognizing businesses that are making a difference.
