What is the Master Plan?
The Integrated Solid Waste Management Master Plan (ISWMMP) will be a detail-oriented plan that identifies the specific infrastructure, funding mechanisms, and other step-by-step requirements, including training and public outreach, needed to fully implement and achieve the policy goals outlined in the Zero Waste Plan.
On February 25, 2010, the City Council approved execution of a contract for professional services with HDR Engineering, Inc. to develop the ISWMMP. HDR immediately began conducting research and gathering data. Additionally, the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) and the City Solid Waste Services Department (SWS) partnered together to survey businesses owners in the Austin area to gather detailed information about existing public and private waste management resources in the community, possibilities for growth, barriers impacting zero waste businesses, as well as potential for partnerships. Information from this effort will support both CAPCOG's Regional Solid Waste Plan as well as the City's ISWMMP. For more information, go to: CAPCOG/COA Solid Waste Survey.
